Baby on the way? Congratulations! As you begin your nesting period of planning and decorating your nursery, there are a myriad of things to consider, especially if this is baby number one. Below are suggestions to help.
Convenience. While a beautiful nursery is great, convenience should be factor number one when you bring your baby home and are dealing with long nights of feeding. Can you reach all the items you need from the changing table? This is crucial for peace of mind, and safety! Plan accordingly.
Cleanability. Make sure all nursery surfaces, including the walls, are easy and quick for clean up. Babies are natural mess makers, and you don't want to make it harder than it needs to be to clean up after them.
Lighting. Consider all your lighting scenarios in advance, like blackout curtains to turn day into night for naptime, and nightlights so you can see during those middle-of-the-night feedings.
Decorate for you. When it comes to decorating your nursery, design the room for yourself. While both you and your babe will spend a lot of time in the room, only one of you will care about the color of the walls and the paintings hung just so. Create a space that brings you joy and peace - you'll want it when you find yourself spending all your waking hours inside of it!
Simplify. Fight the urge to get a gazillion cutesy items to clutter up your nursery. When it comes to convenience, accessibility and visual appeal, in the end, a minimal room is often best.
